Slightly Unprecedented
I was in a session with my coach yesterday when these words came out of my mouth:
I am living slightly unprecedented and it feels so good.
Those words concerned me.
My coach picked up on them like a hawk zeroing in on a mouse.
I have found myself in dangerous territory: the new.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I have put in the hard work and I pay my coach good money to support me in getting to this place. I’ve released over 150 pounds of body fat, I’m establishing strong financial growth, my mental and emotional health is the best it’s been in years, relationships are expanding, discipline and integrity are coming into alignment, and for the first time in forever I’m excited to step into the impossible with the communities I lead (thank you, Jason Jaggard, for Beyond High Performance).
Here comes the danger.
It’s all new and exciting and feels so good – and, I’ve noticed this internal impulse to setup camp because this new ground feels so good. Feels so good often lives just on the other side of slightly unprecedented. It’s novel, there’s a sense of excitement, and a we experience a liberation from past strongholds that allows us to breath easier. There’s nothing wrong with feeling so good about the slightly unprecedented boundaries I have crossed. In fact, celebration and gratitude is and should be a natural expression when the extraordinary is accomplished.
However, feeling so good about the slightly unprecedented is not breathtaking.
Feeling so good about the slightly unprecedented is not experiencing the impossible.
Feeling so good about the slightly unprecedented is not the abundantly more than I could ask or imagine.
When my coach asked me what lives on the other side of slightly unprecedented, my answer surprisingly came bursting out of me: Unstoppable Freedom – for myself and everyone in my life.
Unstoppable freedom for myself and my community is so much more attractive than slightly unprecedented. It’s worth using ever ounce of energy to fight for, and that is the new summit I am taking. Unstoppable freedom is what is now calling me out of my impulse to set up camp at “feeling so good about the slightly unprecedented.”
Ironically, it’s because I have stepped into the slightly unprecedented that I know the unimaginable is absolutely possible! Slightly unprecedented got me into the new. So, now it’s time to explore how far the new extends, for myself and the people I love.
Where have you set up camp in the slightly unprecedented because it feels so good?
What lies beyond that is calling you into the abundantly more?
